Happy

If you’ve been wondering what Syfy’s ‘Happy!’ was going to be like then you’ll be happy to hear that some details about the series are finally emerging. It is hard to imagine exactly how one would bring the graphic novel to the small screen with the interesting style that Grant Morrison and Darick Robertson used to make this 2013 hit. However, Morrison who serves as an executive producer on the series, has opened up a bit about how they’re bringing the book to life.

A quick description of the series: Sax is an ex-cop who has become a hitman. After a heart attack, he wakes to find that he has a new friend named Happy who changes his life forever.

According to Morrison:

“One night, a hit goes wrong, and Nick wakes up with a tiny blue horse on his chest. The horse announces that he’s a little girl’s imaginary friend, and only Nick Sax can save her, because he’s the only other person who can see the imaginary friend, whose name is Happy — Happy the Horse. So, that’s our basic high concept. It’s about the most cynical man on earth being teamed up with a ridiculously upbeat, optimistic little cartoon creature. It’s also set around Christmas. Part of our idea was to do a modern update of things like Scrooge or It’s a Wonderful Life. It’s like A Christmas Carol meets Pulp Fiction, let’s say.”

Now, talk about a fun and festive film right there. With Syfy continuing to churn out some top notch content these days, I am quite eager to see how they’ll adapt the graphic novel and think that Brian Taylor (‘Crank’) might be the perfect choice to direct the series. I just hope they won’t have to blow the entire budget on the CGI horse!
