badape War for the Planet of the Apes

The battle for the planet is in full swing – at least, it is in ‘The War for the Planet of the Apes,’ heading to theaters next month.  Today brings us a new look at the film, with a sizable clip featuring a new ape character.

The third installment in the ‘Planet of the Apes’ prequel trilogy that have coming to theaters for the last six years, ‘War’ may or may not be the end of the line for this story arc.  Starting with ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes‘ and continuing into ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,’ director Matt Reeves (who took over from ‘Rise’ director Rupert Wyatt) has worked with production company 20th Century Fox to create a slow-burn style of films that seems to be slowly putting in place the building blocks for this film series to connect with the original series of ‘Apes’ films.  Last week we got a new video featurette from the film that highlighted a young version of Nova, a character from the classic films.

This video focuses solely on the impending human-simian war, and shows us the first meeting of Bad Ape (portrayed in motion-capture and voice work by Steve Zahn) and Cesar and his crew.  Check it out below, along with official synopsis of the film, and get ready to “go ape” in theaters soon!  Sorry, I couldn’t resist.

In War for the Planet of the Apes, the third chapter of the critically acclaimed blockbuster franchise, Caesar and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel. After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind. As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the Colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet.

‘War for the Planet of the Apes’ opens in American theaters on July 14, 2017.
