News from the stand-alone Han Solo Star Wars movie has been scarce but we’ve just learned a few new details on both the time frame of the film and what Woody Harrelson (‘Zombieland’) will be up to in it! Not only that but a few highlights of what to expect from the film have been revealed as well! While we clearly don’t have all of the details as of yet, it does give us an idea on the direction of the film.
News came during a ‘Star Wars’ talk with the press directly from Disney CEO Bob Iger. One of the members of the press shared the following details:
Han Solo movie will follow him from age 18 through 24 and show him finding the Falcon, meeting Chewbacca, and getting his name, Iger says

So we’ll see Solo in his young adult years, getting the Millennium Falcon, and meeting Chewy for the first time. It will be interesting to see what Han does to earn not only Chewy’s trust but how their lifelong friendship begins. Since we’ve long known that Solo won the Falcon from Lando Calrissian in a card game, it seems that the card game will be shown and we’ll be seeing Donald Glover likely showing up quite prominently.
That is quite a bit of a time range to see the character grow through in an hour and a half to two-hour movie, so it will be fun to see which years they highlight and how they handle the transition from kid to a young scoundrel and rogue.
In an entirely unexpected move, we’ve seen Woody Harrelson reveal his character’s name on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.’ When asked about the film he wouldn’t give too many details but did share that:
“Yeah, I play a guy named Beckett who is kind of a criminal and a mentor to Han […] I’ll be there until the end of July.”
Rumors had once been swirling that he would play Garris Shrike who was a mentor to Solo in the non-canon Extended Universe books. In fact, Woody had previously even confirmed the name so it’s hard to tell what to believe now.
While some characters and plotlines from those novels have been used in the new series, this will not likely be one of them. Of course, we could always see elements of the character be transferred onto Beckett or Harrelson could just be throwing fans for a loop by making up a name.
Only time will tell.
