For those eagerly anticipating the ‘Alita: Battle Angel‘ adaption being produced currently, there is more good news on the horizon. Granted, the film has already been blessed with a lot of good news, from being directed by Robert Rodriguez and produced by James Cameron himself, who has been interested in making a film based on the Japanese manga since the early 2000s. It also features an incredible cast that includes Christoph Waltz, Mahershala Ali, Jackie Earle Haley, Ed Skrein, and Rosa Salazar playing the title character. And now, they have landed Jennifer Connelly for a role, with the news being broke by the Hollywood Reporter. All we know so far is that Connelly will be playing a villain in the film, but the news of her joining the already amazing ensemble is enough to continue to build up excitement for the film.

For those unaware, the source manga, ‘Battle Angel Alita, was created by writer and artist Yukito Kishiro and has been around since the early 1990s. It is set in the distant future where a young female cyborg is found in a scrap heap, and is rescued and rebuilt by a kindly doctor, yet has no memories of her former life aside from her her amazing martial arts training. She decides to become a bounty hunter and track down criminals, which of course leads to many action-packed adventures with overarching themes of self-discovery and a search for love in the world.

Connelly is no stranger to big budget films, having starred in such films as ‘Hulk,’ ‘Blood Diamond,’ and ‘A Beautiful Mind,’ and her pedigree helps confirm that this is going to be a higher class of film than one might initially expect from a story of a female future robot kicking ass and hunting criminals.
