J.A. Bayona has been busy finishing up the soon to be released ‘A Monster Calls’ and is planning on having a lot of fun with the still untitled ‘Jurassic World 2‘. It looks like after his most recent outings he wants to do something a little less serious and a bit more entertaining which is something that can easily be done with the action-packed hit that Colin Trevorrow had delivered with the first ‘Jurassic World.’

When talking about his goals with the film, Bayona says:

“After doing ‘The Impossible’ and ‘A Monster Calls’ I said, ‘I want to have fun now. So, let’s do a dinosaur film with Spielberg. It’s great, but at the same time it’s massive and way bigger than [the last] one.”

With ‘Jurassic World’ giving us the largest dinosaur to date and a theme park that by all rights should be closed after the events that unfolded on the big screen, it will be quite interesting to see how this will be even “bigger” than before, and I can’t wait to see how.

Of course, taking over such a well-known franchise is going to be tricky, to say the least:

“I think what is tricky about doing the fifth movie of a franchise is how will you bring in new stuff and still pay tribute to what we all know and the legacy of the film. So, it’s the balance between the new stuff and the old stuff. I think Colin did a great job in the first one finding the balance between what people are expecting and what people are being again. I was kind of surprised when he pitched me the story because it leads the story to a place that we’ve never seen before and it brings some of the most important elements from the other films and makes something with them. I thought that was very interesting. It’s the second chapter of a trilogy so it gets the story to a place that wants you leaving more and more.”

I’m sure we can all agree that this will hopefully not be ended on a “To be continued…” note though it will be interesting to see what we haven’t seen before being brought to life. With all of the hints at military involvement in the last film and rumors saying it would be a focus of the upcoming sequel, that alone could be an interesting direction. However, with this being “fun” for him to do I’m not sure that a war movie set in the world of ‘Jurassic Park’ would fit that definition. Rumors have had the military, political aspects, and a focus on animal abuse all as potential plot points in the film.

Are you looking forward to ‘Jurassic World 2’? What do you suspect the focus of the film will be? Share your thoughts below!
