pacific rim

Guillermo del Toro took the kaiju-loving world by storm with ‘Pacific Rim’ and actor John Boyega (‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’) has just confirmed to us that the sequel’s full title will in fact, be ‘Pacific Rim: Maelstrom.’ This should come as no true surprise to those who have been following the progress of the film as it has been rumored to be the title for quite some time now though a photo of the script has confirmed it. Boyega has recently become a genre favorite from his work in a galaxy far far away and now we’ll be seeing him follow up Idris Elba as a lead in the next film.

Specifically, he is going to be the son of Stacker Pentecost who Elba played in the last installment. While the first film had appeared to give us the destruction of the rift between the Earth and the realm of the Kaiju it is clear that either another one opens up or someone, possibly a meddling scientist, has reopened it from our side.

Here’s a look at the script with the title:

First day on Pacific Rim today. Here’s to a great adventure ahead ✌

So, this was his first day on set which means I believe we can expect all kinds of news to start dropping over the next couple of months. I’m very curious as to how many, if any, of the original cast will be making major appearances as we already have heard that Charlie Hunnam won’t be reprising his role.

Are you looking forward to the release of ‘Pacific Rim: Maelstrom’? Do you think it’ll get higher viewership at the box office stateside than the first film did? Share your thoughts below!

‘Pacific Rim: Maelstrom’ is set to be released on February 23rd, 2018.
