In 2015, we reported that Nicole Kidman was in talks for a role in ‘Wonder Woman’, believed to be that of Hippolyta, Wonder Woman’s mother and the Queen of the Amazons.  That role eventually went to Connie Nielsen, but Kidman’s name is back in the DC mix, as she is said to be in early negotiations to join James Wan‘s ‘Aquaman’ portraying another Queen– Aquaman’s mother Atlanna.

It’s unclear if perhaps the reports from 2015 were inaccurate or if the timing didn’t work out, but either way, it looks as if the Academy Award winner is set to enter the DC Expanded Universe in one role or another.

Kidman is currently making the rounds for the 2017 Academy Awards for which she is again nominated– this time for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role for her film ‘Lion’, which is also up for Best Motion Picture of the Year and four other accolades.

This won’t be Kidman’s first DC movie.  Though it’s easily forgotten, she played Val Kilmer’s love interest Chase Meridian in 1995’s ‘Batman Forever’.

In the comics, Aquaman/Arthur Curry is the hybrid son of an Atlantean mother (Atlanna) and human lighthouse keeper Tom Curry.  Unfortunately, she perishes, leaving Tom to raise Arthur on his own.  Depending on the continuity, she is sometimes also considered the mother of Orm, Aquaman’s brother who grows up to become the villain Ocean Master.  Patrick Wilson has been cast as Orm in the movie, but whether or not he adopts his villainous persona is unknown at this time.

Should Kidman dive into ‘Aquaman’, in addition to Wilson, she will join Jason Momoa as the title hero, Amber Heard as Mera and Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko.  ‘The Get Down’ actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is reportedly in final negotiations to play villain Black Manta.
