I’m pretty sure we all already felt that ‘Avengers: Infinity War‘ was going to be based on ‘The Infinity Gauntlet’ but apparently it is now officially a rumor that has been circling. Anyone familiar with the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the comic universe could see that it has been Thanos working to harness the infinity gems and make the gauntlet throughout the films so this kind of makes sense.

Somehow, the fact that it was called ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ seems to have thrown some fans who thought they were going to be doing a film based off of the second Infinity story arc which involves characters like Adam Warlock who haven’t actually made a real appearance in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe quite yet.

Spoilers for non-comic readers below!

The original 1991 crossover title to end all Marvel crossovers featured Thanos having assembled the Infinity Gauntlet and using it to wipe out half of all sentient live throughout the cosmos. This was done in order to impress Death who is an actual entity in Marvel. Eventually, he is stopped by Earth’s heroes led by Adam Warlock who reverts everything back to how it was prior to Thanos assembling the gauntlet.

The Infinity War, on the other hand, was released a year later and shows that as Adam Warlock going up against a potential future version of himself named Magus who has designs on taking over the universe.

As the two haven’t been introduced on the big screen quite yet and Thanos has yet to put together his gauntlet it would seem likely that either he will assemble it near the beginning of the film or the entire movie will be his rampage across the Galaxy to gather the stones prior to the actual ‘The Infinity Gauntlet’ story arc being told in what will be the second film.

What could prove fun here is another rumor making the rounds that Death will actually be portrayed by Cate Blanchett‘s Hela from ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ as her roles are similar to one another.

So while we all secretly suspected all this, it looks like Marvel may be contemplating this route after all.

‘Avengers: Infinity War’ will be released on May 4th, 2018.
