Since it was announced last summer, we’ve slowly but surely been learning who would be featured in DC and NBC’s upcoming superhero sitcom ‘Powerless‘. In terms of comic book characters, we’ll be seeing B and C-list heroes like Jack O’ Lantern, Crimson Fox, and more. But when it comes to the non-powered individuals of this world, stars from ‘Firefly’, ‘Community’, and ‘High School Musical’ will round out the cast. Now, thanks to a new poster set to debut at San Diego Comic-Con this week, we know one more person heading to the offices of Retcon Insurance Co.
Entertainment Weekly revealed earlier this week that comedian Ron Funches is the latest to join the cast of ‘Powerless’. He will play IT guy Ron, “a sweet and innocent guy, who, unlike his co-workers, has not lost his childlike enthusiasm for all things superhero.” Before this, Funches was known for his frequent stints on ‘Chelsea Lately’ and ‘@midnight’ and his appearances on ‘New Girl’, ‘Selfie’, ‘Drunk History’, and ‘Kroll Show’. Although, his biggest role to date has been on NBC’s ‘Undateable’ as the oddball friend Shelly. You can see Funches alongside his ‘Powerless’ castmates Vanessa Hudgins, Danny Pudi, Alan Tudyk, and Christina Kirk below in the SDCC poster drawn by comic legend Neal Adams, followed by the official synopsis of the series:
In the first comedy series set in the universe of DC Comics, Vanessa Hudgens (‘Grease Live’, ‘High School Musical’) plays Emily, a spunky young insurance adjuster specializing in regular-people coverage against damage caused by the crime-fighting superheroes. It’s when she stands up to one of these larger-than-life figures (after an epic battle messes with her commute) that she accidentally becomes a cult “hero” in her own right … even if it’s just to her group of lovably quirky co-workers. Now, while she navigates her normal, everyday life against an explosive backdrop, Emily might just discover that being a hero doesn’t always require superpowers.

‘Powerless’ starring Vanessa Hudgins, Danny Pudi, Alan Tudyk, Christina Kirk, and Ron Funches is scheduled to premiere on NBC in Spring 2017.
