Friday the 13th

While it isn’t too surprising that the next ‘Friday the 13th‘ will be a reboot after the lackluster box office results of the 2009 iteration, what is a bit of a shocker is that it is planned to be a new origin story. In a recent interview with Reel World, producer Brad Fuller didn’t offer up too much about the plot but he did give us some interesting tidbits on what we can expect during the return of Jason Voorhees.

First, Fuller goes into a bit of detail about Aaron Guzikowski who is penning the script. His ideas seem to be the foundation for the direction of the new series:

“Aaron’s story has great characters…You kind of have to understand Jason Voorhees, so we go back and we kind of started over and work our way forward.”

So yes they ask in the interview to clarify if that makes this an origin story:

“Origin-ish, but it’s an origin that no one has seen before. Obviously, Pamela’s there, but it’s a little bit different from what you’ve seen before.”

I’m suspecting we’ll get an abridged version of his origin in either flashback or a retelling from characters in the film. It seems unlikely to take up the bulk of the movie when the studio will want to be getting Jason back and slashing teenagers at Camp Crystal Lake. However, since they’ll be fleshing out Pamela Voorhees a little more you can’t help but wonder along with the rest of the horror aficionados out there as to if that means we’ll finally be meeting Jason’s dad.
