warcraft

We all know that ‘Warcraft‘ will be full of CGI through motion capture but we’ve just learned about one area that couldn’t be done with that marriage of technology alone. Early footage from the film had lackluster responses but the further we’ve been going into post production the more we’ve been seeing exactly how good this movie will look! The one catch though is there is a pretty big scene where the Orcs aren’t all fully done by motion capture.

There is a specific fight where the orcs Durotan and Gul’dan are in the heat of battle and the animation team had to take over.

Director Duncan Jones specifically stated that:

“Obviously, we use motion capture for an awful lot of the work we do. Occasionally, there are times where our actors just don’t have the reflexes to pull off the fight moves that we want.”

Since most of the animation in the film is used over motion-capture data or for backgrounds it was almost surprising to hear this. It has been a key selling point by Jones that the actors actually were going through everything that their characters were. In fact for the scene in question, both Toby Kebbell and Daniel Wu did end up going through the fight sequence,

It just didn’t work out to be what they needed.

Those at this event were actually able to see the scene in question and those who have commented do feel that it wouldn’t be too possible for most people to be able to pull off the stunts that ended up on screen. Considering one fight scene in the entire movie was all that was done without motion-capture is pretty impressive with what we’ve been shown so far.

Are you looking forward to checking out ‘Warcraft’ when it is released? Are you happy to hear that most of the fights will have actually been performed by the actors? Share your thoughts below!
