Tom Cruise (‘Edge of Tomorrow’,’Oblivion’) has been circling ‘The Mummy‘ for a couple of weeks but word has it that the has now officially signed on for the film’s production. No stranger to genre films, Cruise hasn’t done much with a horror theme until now.

While we don’t know much about his role we do know that he will be playing across from Sofia Boutella (‘Kingsman: The Secret Service’,’Monsters: Dark Continent’) who is playing the iconic Universal Horror monster with Alex Kurtzman (‘Star Trek: Into Darkness’,’Transformers’) on board to direct based on a script written by Jon Spaihts (‘Prometheus’,’Doctor Strange’) As Boutella has the central role, we’re not sure at this time as to exactly what Cruise will be up to in the movie though with his star power it is an easy bet that it will be a lead role and not a supporting one. Perhaps he’ll inadvertently be an archaeologist or museum curator that sets The Mummy loose in modern times?

The monsters in this universe are set to overlap in each other’s films but there is no word yet if we’ll be seeing another creature show up at this time. This will be the first official film in the upcoming Universal Monsters Cinematic Universe though we know that ‘Dracula Untold’ may end up being part of it as well.

Are you excited to hear that Tom Cruise has signed onto ‘The Mummy’? Will his name being attached help or hinder the film? Share your thoughts below!

We’ll have a chance to unwrap ‘The Mummy’ on the big screen on June 9, 2017 which will star Tom Cruise and Sofia Boutella.
