We previously had heard that there might be a woman wrapped up as ‘The Mummy‘ in Universal’s reboot of the series and now rumor has it that Sofia Boutella (‘Kingsman: The Secret Service’,’Monsters: Dark Continent’) is in negotiations to take the part! This makes me wonder what exactly Tom Cruise‘s role will be in the film. With Angelina Jolie up for Bride of Frankenstein it is obvious that director Alex Kurtzman clearly has respect for her talent to include her with these A-Listers. From her previous work, and also having been cast in ‘Star Trek Beyond’ it is clear that she has both talent and a bright future in front of her.

With a background as a classically trained dancer, Boutella’s talent shows through just as much in how she moves as how she acts. With someone who will most likely spend most, if not all, of the film wrapped up I’m glad to see that the part is most likely going to someone who already knows how to emote with their body. It does make me wonder if they’ll have any reason to have her face unwrapped at all in the more modern era. There is clearly precedent from some iterations and as there are so many ways to present the characterI can’t help but wonder what route they’ll go. Until they start loosening their lips on plot details we really don’t know much about what to expect.

We don’t know much else about the film aside from the fact that Jon Spaihts has written the script but that it will be the first film officially set to launch the Universal Monsters Cinematic Universe. That is unless ‘Dracula Untold’ will be the origin story of Dracula and Luke Evans will be reprising his role. It has been unclear if his take on Vlad will return or not.

Are you looking forward to ‘The Mummy’? Do you think that Sofia Boutella is a good match for the part? Share your thoughts below!

‘The Mummy’ is set to be released on March 24th, 2017.
