Syfy released the first trailer for ‘The Magicians‘ and I’d have to say this latest one really does a good job at showing off what we’ll be seeing. The series is starting with a 12-episode order which will be adapting Lev Grossman’s New York Times best-selling fantasy trilogy to the small screen. No word as of yet if they are planning on doing a book a season for a three season run or finding a way to extend it even longer.

The series is planned to kick off early next year with a two episode premiere on Monday, January 25th. This is clearly another attempt for Syfy to get back to its roots of science fiction and fantasy with another novel adaptation. With Grossman’s trilogy having a huge following, it is a great way to court an already existing fan base for the novels while giving what its target audience, us, something that looks worthwhile to watch!

You can check out the latest trailer below followed by the show’s synopsis:

Adapted from Lev Grossman’s New York Times best-selling fantasy trilogy, THE MAGICIANS centers on Quentin Coldwater, a brilliant grad student chosen to attend Brakebills University for Magical Pedagogy, a secret upstate New York university specializing in magic. He and his 20-something friends soon discover that the magical fantasy world they read about as children is all too real – and poses grave danger to humanity

If the trailer isn’t enough for you we’ve also got 7 new photos that show off the cast and world of ‘The Magicians’.

Visually ‘The Magicians’ has a decent modern look to it so we’ll have to wait and see if they can do justice to Grossman’s original work. The network has really been pushing to get back to its roots, something we can all applaud at even though some of those chances hasn’t quite panned out. Here’s hoping that such a well received set of books can successfully make the transition to the small screen.
