From ‘Prometheus 2‘ to ‘Alien: Paradise Lost‘ to ‘Alien: Covenant‘ – the one thing that hasn’t been consistent about Ridley Scott’s next science fiction film has been the name. But now we have a title card and a synopsis so we may finally have not only a solid title for the film but also a small snippet about its direction. One thing I’m going to warn you, however, is that Noomi Rapace (‘Prometheus‘,’Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows’) fans might not be too happy about what to expect.

Before I get any farther, let me share with you Fox’s official synopsis for ‘Alien: Covenant’:

Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created in ALIEN with ALIEN: COVENANT, the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with PROMETHEUS — and connects directly to Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

Right off the bat the film immediately hints that the only survivor from the first film will be Fassbender’s David which puts in question if Naomi Rapace’s Elizabeth Shaw survived. I suspect she’ll be included in either the back story in a way to lead her into the next film or possibly be involved if they leave the planet in question. Still, the name change might represent a change in the direction of the film as well so we can’t count on her appearing quite yet. I’m curious as to if this colony ship mentioned might actually include some space marines which have been sorely missing from the franchise as of late.
