SPOILER ALERT: The second part of this article contains references to RUMORS regarding Season Nine of ‘Doctor Who’.  Though they may not be confirmed, if you want to avaoid anything resembling a SPOILER, you may wish to turn back!

In preparation for the September 19th Series Nine premier of ‘Doctor Who’, BBC One has released a teasing new two-minute clip, which depicts Peter Capaldi returning in the title role for a second season on the planet Karn, speaking to Ohila, the leader of the Sisterhood of Karn, played by Clare Higgins, who was last seen in the episode ‘The Night Of The Doctor’.

Ohila informs The Doctor that someone is expecting him, to which he replies that he will go see this mysterious villain, but Ohila knows he is lying.  He eventually seems to legitimately relent to go see this person, who it is stated he has known for many years and has considered him an enemy, but explains that an “enemy is just a friend you haven’t made yet.”

He hands Ohila a Confession Disk, stating that she knows to whom to give it before walking off.

Watch for yourself below.  Synopsis follows with discussion of RUMORS/SPOILERS below that, so be warned!:

Here is one synopsis for ‘The Magician’s Apprentice’:

“Trapped and alone in a terrifying Dalek city, the Doctor is at the heart of an evil Empire; no sonic, no TARDIS, nobody to help. With his greatest temptation before him, can the Doctor resist? And will there be mercy?”

And here is an earlier released synopsis:

“Where is the Doctor? When the skies of Earth are frozen by a mysterious alien force, Clara needs her friend. But where is the Doctor, and what is he hiding from? As past deeds come back to haunt him, old enemies will come face-to-face, and for the Doctor and Clara survival seems impossible.”

In the previously released trailer for the premier episode, ‘The Magician’s Apprentice’, Missy/The Master is shown giving the Confession Disk, which is The Doctor’s last will, to Clara.  Does this mean that something, possibly even death, will befall him on Karn?

Speaking of Karn, in the previous trailer, The Doctor was completely missing.  This short clip would seem to answer where he was or will be during much of the first new episode.

But obviously, the bigger mystery is who is this long-running villain that The Doctor and Ohila are discussing?

The most obvious guess is Davros, the creator of the Daleks.  Rumors have been raging for months now, that The Doctor would once again face this mass-murderer, but not like ever before.  This time, The Doctor will travel backward in time to encounter Davros as a child and must decide whether he can bring himself to murder an innocent (at that point) boy in order to prevent the horrors he will go on to be responsible for in the future.  If The Doctor does make that decision, how will the time continuum be altered?

That’s just one hypothesis.  What do you think The Doctor will be up to on Karn?  Is the mysterious bad guy Davros?  Or do you think another classic villain will return?  Comment below!
