October 26th seems a ways off, but then again, I just found a display of Halloween candy at Walmart, so what do I know?  At any rate, October 26th marks the small screen debut of ‘Supergirl’ on CBS.  Created by Andrew Kreisberg and produced by Kreisberg, Ali Adler, Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter, the masterminds behind ‘Arrow‘ and ‘The Flash’ on The CW, the Girl of Steel should bring a healthy dose of might– and youth– to the only network your grandma watches.

It’s true that this project is quite ambitious for CBS, who has had a problem with higher concept shows as well as other programs that don’t contain the letters N, C, I and S in their titles.

As of now, it looks like ‘Supergirl’ will play even lighter than ‘The Flash‘ which is saying quite a lot considering how light that show is compared to its gritty parent series ‘Arrow’.  But there’s nothing wrong with a little optimism is there?

This new clip features plenty of flying and other special effects which are a big departure for a CBS show and even those on other networks.  We get a glimpse of Kara arriving on Earth, something that wasn’t clear in previous clips but one that brings this show closer in line to comic book continuity.  Previous depictions seemed to paint this picture that Kara existed separately from her famous cousin, but their connection appears stronger than previously suggested here.

There is also some footage of some of the baddies that will be menacing Kara.  There may be a bit of a villain-of-the-week formula, something that plagues other similar shows, but I have faith in the creative team behind ‘Supergirl’ that they can avoid familiar tropes and deliver something deeper.  (Knock on wood.)
