Now here’s some super news coming from the set of CBS’ ‘Supergirl’! It’s just been announced that Dean Cain and Helen Slater have both been signed to guest star in super secret mystery roles in the series!

Cain and Slater both have deep connections with the character of Supergirl and the DC universe. Cain starred as the mild mannered reporter Clark Kent (aka Superman) in the ABC series ‘Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman’ while Slater portrayed Kara/Supergirl on the big screen. Both have also appeared on the WB/CW series ‘Smallville’ with Slater playing Clark/Kal-El’s Krytonian mom, Lara, and Cain playing the immortal Dr. Curis Knox in the Season 7 episode titled ‘Cure.’

While it is unknown what their roles will be in this rendition of the Supergirl lore (feel free to speculate in the comments below), they are known to be definitely appearing in the pilot episode. While the show does have a series commitment, their appearances beyond the first episode is unknown at this point.

Written and produced by Greg Berlanti (who already has 2 current DC shows under is belt with ‘Arrow’ and ‘The Flash’), ‘Supergirl’ will follow the exploits of Kara Zor-El whom many comic fans know as Superman’s cousin who also escaped before their planet of Krypton was destroyed. She is raised by the Danvers family and when the series begins, Kara (Melissa Benoist), who is in her mid-20s, will be working as an assistant to media mogul Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart) who, in the comics, had rallied against the Girl of Steel and her use of her super powers in public (think the female version of J Jonah Jameson). Kara will also befriend ladies’ man “James” Olsen (Mehcad Brooks) who happens to be a photographer not for the Daily Planet, but for CatCo, the same company Kara works at.

Recently added to the cast were Laura Benanti, Chyler Leigh and David Harewood. Benanti will play Kara’s Kryptonian mother, Alura Zor-El, who will be guiding presence for her daughter. Leigh will play Supergirl’s foster sister Alexandra “Alex” Danvers whose fascination of her sister’s powers at a young age, prompted her to develop a lifelong obsession with science and inspired her to become a doctor. As for Harewood, he was cast in the role of Hank Henshaw, a former CIA agent who runs the Department of Extra-Normal Operations which tracks extraterrestrial threats. In the comic, Henshaw eventually became the villain Cyborg Superman so he’ll definitely be the one to watch out for in the series.

The series seems to be coming along and with Berlanti as an executive producer, many fans are hoping to see a few crossover episodes or even mentions with the other DC shows that he produces. ‘Supergirl’ will surely be one of the shows to watch next season.

While we wait, who do you think Cain and Slater will be playing in the series? Let us know in the comments below!
