With the central role of Apocalypse having been cast for ‘X-Men: Apocalypse,’ the next set of questions has been which X-Men would be showing up to fight against one of their greatest villains. Now it seems that as least one Russian mutant won’t be making the cut.

In the films, one of the stand out characters who hasn’t gotten as much screen time that they’ve deserved is Daniel Cudmore (‘X-Men: Days of Future Past‘,’Warcraft‘) who has played Piotr Rasputin, better known as Colossus. Now it looks as if he won’t be returning to the franchise. Well, at the very least it doesn’t look like he’ll be back for the next installment.

Honestly this shouldn’t be too surprising as this next film is completing a trilogy that started in the 2011 release of ‘X-Men: First Class.’ Even with the timeline changes that occurred in ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past,’ it seems highly unlikely that they’d be able to find a way for him to fit in. Even with a completely new timeline, Colossus was a younger new student after the events of  ‘X-Men 2.’ With ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ taking place in the 80s, the character would probably be just a child who wouldn’t even have developed his powers yet in this timeline.

Not that the films have done a great job at following continuity, but as ‘Days of Future Past’ was supposed to reset that and make it work, it doesn’t make sense for him to be brought into play in the 80s.

Continuity aside, Cudmore was recently asked on Twitter if he’d be in the film as to which he directly responded with:

Apparently this wasn’t the first or last time he was asked and he felt that a blanket statement was called for to really address all of the questions on the matter.

While I would love to see Cudmore return to the role, we can only hope that the next trilogy they do film wise is a little further out and would allow Fox to use the actor again. I suspect we’ll be moving through the 80s and 90s going forward if they want to use a new recast set of younger actors and make it actually believable and follow the ones they are trying to have us become invested in.

What about you, True Believers, do you think they could still find a way to use Cudmore as Colossus? Do you think Fox has underused an actor perfect for the role? Share your thoughts below!
