It’s a horror film that we’ve been waiting for! The first trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Crimson Peak‘ has been released and it is everything you would expect from this fan favorite director.

The trailer immediately grabs you with its gothic look, the feeling that something is not quite right, the slightly off kilter soundtrack and the high amount of sexual tension between the characters. Yep! Forget the going trend of found footage horror films. This is what a horror film should be like!

‘Crimson Peak’ was co-written by del Toro and Matthew Robbins and centers on Edith Cushing (Mia Wasikowska), a  young lady who is swept off her feet by the ever charismatic Sir Thomas Sharpe (Tom Hiddleston) much to the concern of her childhood friend Dr. Alan McMichael (Charlie Hunnam). Sir Thomas brings Edith to his home where she meets his sister Lady Lucille Sharpe (Jessica Chastain) who seems almost jealous to see her but that may be the least of her problems as the house, like its occupants, have terrifying secrets within its walls.

Here’s the official synopsis of the film:

Set in the aftermath of a family tragedy, the film follows an aspiring author is torn between love for her childhood friend and the temptation of a mysterious outsider. Trying to escape the ghosts of her past, she is swept away to a house that breathes, bleeds… and remembers.

As del Toro has stated in the past that ‘Crimson Peak’ is an “adult movie” with moments of “very visceral, physical violence” and a lot of “kinky moments.”

Part Gothic romance, part supernatural horror, part psychological thriller, from the trailer below it does seem that del Toro has certainly found a way to mesh it all together and make it work! We’ll definitely see if does when the film is released on October 16.
