‘Star Trek 3’ has gone through some major changes recently. In addition to making his directorial debut with this film, Roberto Orci was set to write the ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ sequel with J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay as well. However, script issues lead to his departure from the project in all capacities other than producing. Now, ‘Fast and Furious’ franchise director Justin Lin has beamed aboard the Starship Enterprise to helm the Paramount production and series star Simon Pegg (who is also an accomplished writer in his own right) has been tapped to co-write the new script with ‘Dark Blue’ creator Doug Jung. But what do the rest of Pegg’s fellow castmates think about his new role behind the scenes? The captain has weighed in.

During an interview with MTV to promote his new movie ‘Z For Zachariah,’ Chris Pine discussed his co-star’s new position in the ‘Star Trek’ franchise. The actor known for his role as Captain James Tiberius Kirk showed great support for his friend and joked that we’ll probably get more Scotty than ever. Check out everything he had to say regarding the upcoming adventure into the final frontier in the video below:

Since Pegg and Jung have likely began work on their script within the past few days, it’s no surprise that Pine doesn’t have much information about what to expect from the ‘Star Trek’ film due out in July 2016. Although, since shooting is meant to start in April, we’re probably going to get some details sooner rather than later.

What do you think about Chris Pine’s comments on Simon Pegg writing ‘Star Trek 3’? Are you excited to see what the ‘Shaun of the Dead’ and ‘Hot Fuzz’ writer and star does with one of the most iconic properties in all of science fiction? Let us know in the comments.
