ZeniMax has announced that MMORPG ‘The Elder Scrolls Online’ to switching over from its previous $15 subscription-based model to a buy-to-play model.

The switch will take place on March 17 for PC gamers, while the same deal will be going on with the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game when it launches on June 9. So anyone who still owns an active subscription to game will now no longer be required to pay a monthly fee to play, and anyone who just wants to play the game can do so by simply buying it with no more worries of additional costs.

“Our fans are our biggest inspiration, and we’ve listened to their feedback on the entertainment experience they want,” said The ElderScrolls Online‘ Game Director Matt Firor in a press release. “We know that Elder Scrolls fans want choice when it comes to how they play and how they pay, and that is what they will get. We have made numerous changes to the game over the past year, and are confident this is a game that Elder Scrolls fans will love to play. Players can explore Tamriel with friends, battle creatures, craft, fish, steal, or siege. The choice is theirs. The game offers hundreds of hours of gameplay with unlimited adventures with one single game purchase. We can’t wait for everyone, whether they’ve played before or will be experiencing it for the first time, to begin adventuring in ‘The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited.’”

With the newly rebranded name of ‘The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited,’ the game will now be featuring an optional premium subscription called ‘ESO Plus’, which will grant players monthly in-game benefits, a monthly allotment of crowns to spend in the game’s store and access to all DLC packs while a member. Windows PC/Mac players with active subscriptions to the game on March 17 will be automatically enrolled in ‘ESO Plus.’

When the new buy-to-play model goes into place, ‘The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited’ will still include all content previously present in the game, as well as all prior game updates and content additions for new players and previous subscribers.

‘The Elder Scrolls Online’ will be available as ‘The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited’ for Windows PC and Mac on March 17. Both PS4 and Xbox One versions will release on June 9.
