We’ve all heard that Fox is in “serious talks” to bring back ‘The X-Files‘ to TV and unsurprisingly David Duchovny would be happy to reprise his role for the series! I do say unsurprisingly as Duchovy once said that “You could wheel me out. I’ll be Fox Mulder forever.” Well David, you might just have your wish!

However before we all get too excited about a return of Mulder and Scully, they may not be coming back for a full season. Here’s what Duchovny had to say on the subject: “I’m assuming that it will happen sooner rather than later now. We’ll see what form, how many [episodes]. Certainly I can’t nor would I be interested in doing a full season. It will be in some kind of limited form. We’re all old, we don’t have the energy for a full season.”

While I do have to hope he changes his mind here, I’d still settle for a short season to properly give the show the send off that it deserves. A send off that touches on all of the major alien invasion story arcs and lets us forget the travesty that was ‘The X-Files: I Want to Believe.’ Of course chances are it could just as likely be a passing of the torch to a new generation kind of season thanjust following the explots of Mulder and Scully.

Previously Carter had said that if he was able to do a third movie he would address the fact that the colonization date has passed and that is something the series wouldn’t ignore. According to the showrunner, they only had enough budget for a standalone story, but “we want to go back to the mythology.”

Explaining the return of Mulder and why the alien invasion didn’t happen on December 22nd, 2012 seems like an easy lead in to a full season run.

I hope we’ll hear more good news on this being pushed forward in the near future.
