If you were a fan of ‘The Ring’ and have been wanting to know more about F. Javier Gutierrez’s next installment of the series, you may be happy to find out that the lead actress will be Matilda Anna Ingrid Lutz (‘Fuoriclasse’,’Somewhere Beautiful’). Those unfamiliar with this Italian actress shouldn’t be too surprised unless they watch a lot of Italian cinema as this will be her first major role stateside let alone in an English production.
Aside from the director and Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald producing the film we haven’t heard much about this film except that it will be titled ‘Rings.’ We don’t even know if ‘Rings’ is a third installment to turn this into a horror trilogy or a reboot after the first two films. We do know that Naomi Watts isn’t signed on as this isn’t a direct continuation of her character’s story. I wonder if this will someone else still be spreading the curse or has it been lying dormant all of these years only to just now be rediscovered.
With ten years having passed since the last film and VHS no longer a mainstream media format, it’ll be interesting to see if the curse being transmitted to digital will still be going or if someone finds a tape, player, and decides to watch. Imagine if someone decided to upload this to YouTube!
With the original two films netting over $400 million worldwide, this is a series that one could easily wonder why they haven’t tried to go back to sooner. If they find a way to continue the first two films and not do a reboot it could prove interesting, but we’ll have to see how it comes together further into production.
