Now that the dust has settled from Marvel’s big day of news about the Phase 3 movies, what could be the largest announcement yet is that the studio is releasing 2 more Avengers films titled ‘Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and Part 2.’ Yes ladies and gentlemen, the largest crossover event in cinematic history of any comic book or other franchise is happening. While this puts to rest the rumors that just ‘Avengers 3’ was going to be dealing with the Infinity Gauntlet storyline, it now appears that we’ll be seeing it spread across two films which will be released in May of 2018 and 2019 respectively.

Be prepared for what might just be the biggest cliffhanger in a movie of all time folks!

Honestly, this later timeline and a two part film works a lot better when you put things in perspective. The ‘Infinity Gauntlet’ storyline was one of the largest crossover events of all time. While we currently have ‘The Avengers,’ the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy,’ and ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,’ by the time these films comes together we’re also going to have the likes of ‘Captain Marvel‘, ‘The Defenders’, ‘The Inhumans’, ‘Doctor Strange‘, ‘Black Panther,’ as well as the new characters introduced in every film before this release such as Vision, Quicksilver, and Scarlet Witch in ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron.’ Also, who knows what characters could be introduced on top of that or of the rumor of Sony and Marvel working Spider-man into Marvel’s Cinematic Universe? Leading up to it, I also suspect that we’ll see a lot more of Thanos popping up, especially in 2017’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 2’ and possibly even with the 2018 release of ‘The Inhumans’ in order to tie them into the second act of ‘Avengers: Infinity War,’

While there is no word of who we’ll be seeing in the films quite yet, I would expect the majority of the above will end up on screen. If the film even loosely follows the comic books, they’ll need to as we’ll be seeing Thanos combining all of the infinity stones into the Infinity Gauntlet and already going from one of the most powerful beings in the Universe to the most powerful being with the powers of an actual God.

So yes, it’ll be a huge fight of everyone vs Thanos. While that works out great on page I’m a bit curious as to what kind of a brawl fest this will end up looking like on the big screen. I can’t wait to find out! So far Marvel has been steering us in the right direction with all of its films aside from ‘Iron Man 2,’ and I suspect this Universe spanning crossover will be the best thing Marvel has given us so far.

No word on an official synopsis or who will be directing quite yet but rumors did have both Joe and Anthony Russo directing the third Avengers film. Will they now be helming both or neither?
