There is always a ton of excitement surrounding Marvel Studios and their movies. Recently, all of the buzz was came from the trailer leak for ‘The Avengers: Age of Ultron’ and the latest casting rumors for ‘Doctor Strange’, but the House of Ideas dropped one hell of an announcement this morning that will give True Believers plenty more to talk about.

Around 11:00am PST at the El Capitan Theater in Los Angeles (and on Marvel.com), Marvel assembled members of the press for a special event featuring studio president Kevin Feige, filmmaker Joss Whedon, and a few surprises where they announced their upcoming schedule of Phase Three films, which I’ll present to you now and save my comments for later:

A few quick things before moving on: 1) Scott Derrickson has been officially confirmed as the director of ‘Doctor Strange’ and it will “open up a whole new world for the cinematic universe”. 2) Yes, Captain Marvel will be Carol Danvers. I can already sense the Carol Corps jumping for joy about this one. 3) Ragnarok means “the end of all things”. Thinking back on the end of ‘Thor: The Dark World’, imagine all the possibilities!

But now for the main event of this gathering. When the date May 4, 2018 appeared onscreen, Feige said that there was “the notion that we’ve always had a plan… The beginning of a culmination of everything that has come before.” After a montage of all the previous films, we see that this phase will be topped off by the two-part epic ‘Avengers: Infinity War’!

And finally, the last topic of discussion for this event was the title of the third Captain America film, which is set to kick off Phase Three when it premiere on May 6, 2016: ‘Captain America: Civil War’. At this point, Feige brings out Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and the Black Panther himself, Chadwick Boseman, who will be appearing in the movie in costume (but more on that later). And in terms of how the story will change from the comic to the screen, Feige said that the “events of the whole cinematic universe will make all governments in the world want regulation. Not so much about secret identity, but about who reports to who.”

Which so much news to take in today, it’s hard to express into words the excitement you’re feeling, but give it a shot anyway. Which Phase Three Marvel movie are you most excited for? Which ones are the biggest surprises? Let us know in the comments below.
