I know that quite a few of you are going to be jealous of Germany this holiday season as Sky Deutschland is launching an all ‘Star Wars‘ channel from December 1st to 14th! For these 14 days the Sky Hits Digital channel will be transformed into the Sky Star Wars HD Channel. This isn’t a May the 4th be with you marathon, but a full on channel takeover with even the network name being temporarily changed!

The force is strong on this network. If ratings prove successful I would wager that we’d see a repeat of this next year leading into the next film.

What can you expect to see if you have access to it? Well. the programming is set to include the original ‘Star Wars’ trilogy, the prequel trilogy, 20 ‘Star Wars’ themed making-of featurettes, and the 2 documentaries ‘Empire of Dreams: The Story of the Star Wars Trilogy’ from 2004 and ‘Star Wars: The Legacy Revealed’ from 2007. Both of these documentaries are from Emmy award winning Kevin Burns. All of these will be on a 24-hour loop that will play continuously for subscribers that are located in Germany and Austria.

While I’m sure that they are thankful there is no word on the ‘Star Wars’ Christmas special, this seems like it would have been a great time to also include ‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars‘ into the mix as well as the initial episodes and film of ‘Star Wars Rebels.’

According to Sky Deutschland VP of  Programming Gary Davey,  the channel was formed for ‘Star Wars’ fans since it is too long to wait till Dec. 18, 2015 for ‘Star Wars: Episode VII‘ to be released. He also added that the channel should help this long wait seem “a bit sweeter.”

Are you suddenly jealous of the 3.8 million subscribers of the network that are located in Germany and Austria? Are you hoping this will spur Disney to make a similar deal in other countries? Share your thoughts below!
