How’s this for a Throwback Thursday? Remember last year at San Diego Comic-Con when ‘Doctor Who’ star Karen Gillan revealed that she had shaved her head for her role as Nebula in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’? Well, now we can relive the excitement of that shocking unveiling in a brand new way thanks to the wonders of the internet.
Earlier this week, after the awesome news that James Gunn’s Phase Two film featuring Star-Lord, Gamora, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, and Drax the Destroyer has surpassed ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ to become the highest grossing film of 2014, a video surfaced online featuring Gillan prior to principal photography beginning last year. Aided by a few people from the make-up department, the actress filmed herself getting her head shaved for her then-upcoming role as Thanos’ crazed daughter. You can see the former Amy Pond shed her signature red locks in the video below:
As I’m sure we’ve all seen by now, Gillan probably didn’t have to shave her head to play Nebula since she didn’t really appear in the movie that much (even though she certainly made her few appearances count). However, it is pretty awesome that she was willing to undergo such a change for the role. Plus, plenty of groundwork has been laid for her to cross paths with her sister and her team of “losers” once again, so there’s a good chance that she will be meeting a pair of clippers once again when the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ sequel rolls around.
