While I knew that Guillermo del Toro was on board as a producer for the animated film ‘Book of Life,’ I had forgotten it was so close to release and this trailer makes me want to check it out!

Coming on October 17th, we have the tale of a young man, Manolo, who wants to win the heart of Maria and save his village. Diego Luna (‘Elysium’,’Milk’) will be voicing Manolo while Zoe Saldana (‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘, ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’) who keeps getting amazing roles and outdoing herself with each one will be voicing Maria. The two will travel through multiple worlds for Manolo to catch her interest and save the day.

Visually, this film just looks spectacular. Director and co-writer Jorge R. Gutierrez (‘El Tigre: The Adventures of Manny Rivera’, ‘Mad’) really looks like he has an animated hit on his hands with this one. If the full movie is as good as this trailer, I hope that this means we’ll be seeing more of him in the future. I’m sure the star appeal of some of the voice actors will help get more seats filled in theaters with a supporting cast that also includes Channing Tatum (‘X-Men: Apocalypse’, ‘G.I.Joe: Retaliation‘), Ron Perlman (‘Hellboy‘, ‘Pacific Rim‘), Christina Applegate (‘Married with Children’, ‘Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy’), Danny Trejo (‘Machete’, ‘From Dusk Till Dawn‘), Ice Cube (’21 Jump Street’, ‘Friday’), Cheech Marin (‘Cars’, ‘The Lion King’), and Eva Bella (‘Frozen’, ‘Despicable Me 2’). Honestly, when you watch the preview I don’t thing you’ll really care about whose doing the voice work as I can’t stress enough how cool this looks!

You can check out the trailer below and if you are a fan of animated films this is 2 and a half minutes of your life that you won’t regret spending watching a preview!

So, a journey through the land of the living, the Land of the Remembered, and I believe a third fantastical world as well. The animation style would lend itself great to not only this film but some of the classic point and click PC games that Lucas Arts used to do.

Are you looking forward to checking out the ‘Book of Life’?
