While Platinum Dunes is known for creating quite a few reboots over the past few years, they aren’t known for cancelling them as they just have for ‘The Monster Squad.’

In 2010 the company started working on bringing this classic to life once more. To get it going, they hired cousins Mark and Brian Gunn who were responsible for ‘Journey 2: The Mysterious Island’ and ‘PG Porn’ before finally shutting the door on this reboot from happening.

When asked about the remake, producer Andrew Form responded with “The Monster Squad, we’re not developing anymore.” and Brad Fuller added in that the project is “dead.”

With their current reboot of ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles‘ hitting theaters this weekend and ‘Friday the 13th‘ actively in the works, maybe they finally just decided that enough was enough for reboots for the near future? Doubtful. I believe they either didn’t have a solid story coming together or just wanedt to keep rebooting mainstream films and not the lesser known ones which are, sadly, the ones more likely to be appreciated.

The concept for the film has a young group of kids who have to save the world from Dracula, Frankenstein’s Monster, the Wolfman, the Mummy, and the Gillman. Yes, it is a group of classic monsters being thwarted by children, but it was just a really fun watch and one that could probably have made a great remake. Honestly, it’s films that aren’t mainstream hits that have potential to be redone as they are the ones that won’t have as much of an audience comparing them to the original.

Still, it’s a remake we won’t see now and one that fans of the original won’t worry that the material is being ruined.

What are your thoughts on the cancellation of the reboot? Are you glad it happened or was this a film that could have used the dust knocked off of it and brought in for a modern day revamp?
