Usually, we here at ScienceFiction.com focus on the fiction part of our moniker. However, the science is just as important. When speaking about the topic, there’s no denying that one of the biggest names in all of science is Stephen Hawking. Now, the real world continues to inspire art as a new movie sets out to tell an unexpected love story featuring the world-renowned astrophysicist and his wife Jane.

Premiering at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, ‘The Theory of Everything’ follows the young scientist during his days at Cambridge where he meets the love of his life. But when he receives a devastating diagnosis, the couple must overcome insurmountable odds both professionally and personally. This film from Academy Award winner James Marsh is already receiving some early Oscar buzz, which isn’t surprising when you see ‘Les Miserables’ and ‘Jupiter Ascending’ star Eddie Redmayne. You can see his portrayal of Hawking, along with Felicity Jones of ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ as Jane Wilde, in the trailer below:

This is the extraordinary story of one of the world’s greatest living minds, the renowned astrophysicist Stephen Hawking, who falls deeply in love with fellow Cambridge University student Jane Wilde. Once a healthy, active young man, Hawking received an earth-shattering diagnosis at 21 years of age. With Jane fighting tirelessly by his side, Stephen embarks on his most ambitious scientific work, studying the very thing he now has precious little of – time. Together, they defy impossible odds, breaking new ground in medicine and science, and achieving more than they could ever have dreamed. The film is based on the memoir ‘Traveling to Infinity: My Life with Stephen’, by Jane Hawking.
