While we’re going to most assuredly be getting a slew of new details on ‘The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies‘ when Peter Jackson strolls into Comic-Con, we have another new image to help tide you over until then! I suspect SDCC will be giving us our first official trailer of the final film in Jackson’s second Hobbit filled trilogy.

When the movie comes out, many people may not be remembering how tragic the ending of the book will really leave us. As screenwriter and producer Philippa Boyens points out “people tend to forget what happens at the end of The Hobbit. They think of this little children’s book. The rest of the story needs to be told, and it’s pretty intense stuff. It’s very much a ‘shock and awe’ by the enemy and it’s pretty devastating” on Bilbo Baggins and his dwarf pals, who are trying to reclaim their gold-filled mountain kingdom of Erebor.”

Let’s take a look at the shot here which heavily featured Gandalf and the elves.

On the other side of things that don’t involve Smaug, Gandalf and the White Council are trying to stop the Necromancer from regaining his power which we know fails as Sauron comes to a heightened power in the ‘Lord of the Rings’ trilogy before he is eventually defeated. “It’s all coming full circle,” says Boyens, adding that the take-away from all these films is the importance of home. It’s the ordinary, everyday folk, as Gandalf says in the first film, those are the ones who keep the darkness at bay. That is what you come to understand is more important than gold and that treasure in the mountain.”

It’s going to be sad that this is our last visit to the realm of Middle Earth and The Shire, but I do know that when the extended editions of this trilogy is released we’re all going to have probably 2+ full days of film between the six movies to enjoy! That’s not even counting the bonus material!

However with a new movie comes a ton of new visuals and right now I get to share with you the new poster for ‘The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies’ which looks absolutely amazing!

WOW is all I think I need to say there.

Synopsis:

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies” brings to an epic conclusion the adventures of Bilbo Baggins, Thorin Oakenshield and the Company of Dwarves. Enraged, Smaug rains his fiery wrath down upon the defenseless men, women and children of Lake-town. Obsessed above all else with his reclaimed treasure, Thorin sacrifices friendship and honor to hoard it as Bilbo’s frantic attempts to make him see reason drive the Hobbit towards a desperate and dangerous choice. But there are even greater dangers ahead. Unseen by any but the Wizard Gandalf, the great enemy Sauron has sent forth legions of Orcs in a stealth attack upon the Lonely Mountain. As darkness converges on their escalating conflict, the races of Dwarves, Elves and Men must decide – unite or be destroyed. Bilbo finds himself fighting for his life and the lives of his friends in the epic Battle of the Five Armies, as the future of Middle-earth hangs in the balance.
