Back when Joss Whedon was working on ‘The Avengers,’ he planned on including “a beautiful and poignant scene between Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter”. However, when it came down to the final cut, the scene was scrapped because it didn’t fit the rhythm of the epic superhero team up. Later, we got to see the two World War II sweethearts reunite onscreen in the present day in ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’, but that was courtesy of the Russo brothers. Now, it appears that the fan favorite filmmaker finally gets to play with Cap and Peggy in his next project for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

According to the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly, Hayley Atwell revealed that after her character from ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’ makes her network television debut on ABC’s ‘Agent Carter’, she will appear in Whedon’s ‘The Avengers: Age of Ultron’. The actress recounts an evening out with Whedon that lead to her inclusion in the highly anticipated sequel:

“We went out drinking one night and he was like, ‘You know, it would be great to write something for you.’ And I was like, ‘Yes, Joss, it would! It would be amazing!'”

Naturally, she couldn’t go any further with details about whether her role would be in a flashback or in present day, but reports have surfaced that Chris Evans was filming scenes inside London’s Rivoli Ballroom with “several Lindy Hop dancing extras” in April. Paul Bettany, who will jump from his role as Iron Man’s AI to the android known as The Vision, was also reportedly involved in these scenes, so if Atwell is involved in these scenes, then my guess is that she’s involved in some sort of dream sequence created by Vision to psyche out Captain America.

Are you excited to hear that Peggy Carter will appear in ‘The Avengers: Age of Ultron’? Do you think that Hayley Atwell’s character will appear in the present day, a flashback, or some kind of dream? And what do you suppose the Vision has to do with any of this? Let’s hear your thoughts and theories in the comments below.
