With the success of ‘Resident Evil‘ on the big screen, it is actually surprising that ‘Dead Rising’ hasn’t happened, until now. With Capcom’s first zombie franchise going on to make five (soon six) movies and a slew of animated features, it should be no surprise that they would want to follow suit in their current smash hit! It seems that Legendary Entertainment has just sold the domestic film rights to Crackle where the film will premiere in the US.

The movie will be written by Tim Carter who will also be co-producing  with Tomas Harlan through Contradiction Films, the company responsible for the ‘Mortal Kombat: Legacy‘ digital series. With their experience releasing in an all-digital format, it seems like a no brainer to be putting this out on Crackle first. Lorenzo di Bonaventura (‘Transformers’ ,’G.I. Joe: Retaliation‘) is going to be on board as the executive producer.

In the film version of ‘Dead Rising,’ we will see events happening during a huge zombie outbreak (just like in the games) which should hopefully lead to an absolute ton of zombies on screen throughout the movie. The government released a vaccine which fails to stop the infection and we follow four lead characters who try to both avoid death and infection while trying to find what caused the outbreak in the first place. After a bit of investigation it actually appears that a massive government conspiracy may be in the works. Apparently “politics, public paranoia, and media coverage play an important role in the story’s narrative.” With media being an important role, I hope that means we’ll be seeing Frank West make an appearance or at least be mentioned!

The film will initially debut on Crackle and after its exclusive run will later be released on SVOD, VOD, DVD, and television.
