While ‘Resident Evil 6‘ was supposed to have begun production in the Fall of 2013, Paul W.S. Anderson (‘Death Race’, ‘AVP: Alien vs. Predator’) had fallen a little behind due to his on ‘Pompeii’. With that film out of the way he can now focus on a world overcome by zombies in the big screen adaptations of the video game that have taken a life of their own. Recently at the 2014 Beijing International Film Festival, Anderson he took some time to share details on what we may be seeing in the sixth and quite possibly final film in the ‘Resident Evil’ franchise.

Final film? We’ve actually heard that before! However, it is starting to sound as if the film being both written and directed by Anderson may actually be the last we’ll see of Milla Jovovich in as Alice. So that would mean the ‘Resident Evil’ franchise will be over until someone reboots it? (Which I’m sure will be whenever the contract is getting close to ending if no films are made.)

So what else did we learn about the film? Well it appears that Binging Li (‘Transformers: Age of Extinction’) will be reprising her role as Ada Wong from ‘Resident Evil: Retribution‘. Also. like ‘Retribution’. this film will be shot in 3D. While I don’t agree with Anderson that “3D technology has now become the fabric [of] film” there is clearly an interest in it.

Finally we may have learned that the title for the upcoming film could end up being ‘Resident Evil: Rising’.

While the last film was by no means a fan favorite, it did earn $240 million on a $65 million budget so there should have been no doubt that another one would be in the works. With the sixth film planned to hit theaters in 2015, we can expect a closure in this final chapter of the franchise. If you have loved all of the movies, want to know how they all come together, or are just looking for an action packed film this will most likely be the movie to see next September.
