Whenever someone thinks of Marvel Comics, one of the first names that pops into people’s heads is Stan Lee. The legendary comic book icon even made the jump along with the heroes that he created as he has appeared in every Marvel Studios film to date. He’s even lined up a cameo for ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ when that returns next month. However, it appears that the streak will come to an end later this year.

In an interview with Dweebcast, Lee shared that he did not film an appearance in James Gunn’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, which is set to debut this summer. Even though he is credited with creating Groot, who will be voiced by Vin Diesel, along with Jack Kirby and Dick Ayers, he says that because he didn’t conceive Star-Lord and the rest of the gang, he’s staying on the bench for this particular Marvel Cinematic Universe feature:

“No, I’m afraid not. That’s the one group I didn’t create. I didn’t write Guardians of the Galaxy. I’m not even sure who they all are. I can’t wait to see the movie.”

There’s no shortage of the Generalissimo though. Aside from paying a visit to Agent Coulson and his crew soon, we also have ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ being released this year as well, in addition to the non-Marvel Studios movies ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ and ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’, which may or may not feature a cameo from the beloved comic creator.

While I understand the studios’ reasoning behind leaving him out, it is a bit of a bummer to say that he’s in every Marvel Studios movie except this one. Am I alone on this one? Are you disappointed that Stan “The Man” Lee isn’t being included in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’? Let us know in the comment section and then check out this video with every one of his cameos to date:
