February 12th is coming up quick and with it is the return of everyone’s favorite future of law enforcement, ‘RoboCop’. Today’s action show has him taking on some of the drones we keep hearing will be in the film! Each of the ‘RoboCoptrailers that have been released have given us more of the excitement that will be found within the film, but very few have shown off the drones that are one of the centerpieces of the movie.

Today’s image, though, shows Joel Kinnaman‘s (‘The Killing’,’The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’) portrayal as RoboCop about to deal with three of them who clearly have the advantage of having the higher ground:

While I’m usually pretty bored with stills this close to a movie’s release (especially after so many trailers have been released at this point!), to finally get a decent look at the drones, even from behind, makes it worth it. As one of the central pieces of the movie is a metaphoric statement on the current drone usage in our world, it’s good to finally see them in the film.

What do you think of the look of the drones being used here? Is the fact that they are extremely human-like fitting or does it take away from the current version of thrones in any kind of a social commentary setting?

In ‘RoboCop’, the year is 2029 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Their drones are winning American wars around the globe and now they want to bring this technology to the home front. Alex Murphy is a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit. After he is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp utilizes their remarkable science of robotics to save Alex’s life. He returns to the streets of his beloved city with amazing new abilities, but with issues a regular man has never had to face before.

‘Robocop’ stars Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldmann, Michael Keaton, Samuel L. Jackson, Jay Baruchel, Abbie Cornish and Jackie Earle Haley and will be in theaters on February 7th, 2014.
