Even though the name of the comic might be in question, ‘Outcast’ is moving forward and now has Cinemax set to develop a show based upon the upcoming comic.

‘The Walking Dead’ has been a smash hit and Kirkman has been successful with his ‘Invincible’ comic. While his take on zombies has clearly proven successful, it’s going to be a big gamble on his take for possession and exorcisms. Still, with the built-in fan base who are continuing his first horror show as the top rated show on television, this is clearly a gamble worth making.

When talking about the show, Kirkman actually brings up parallels on how the main character in the series will be similar to one we’ve already been introduced to. “Despite the success of ‘The Walking Dead’, ‘Outcast’ is only my second foray into the horror genre. I think Kyle Barnes is every bit as compelling as Rick Grimes and demonic possession is way scarier than zombies–so this is going to be fun,” said  Kirkman. “Starting a new project is like setting off on an long journey and I couldn’t ask for better travel companions than David Alpert and Sharon Tal Yguado and I’m thrilled to be a part of what Cinemax has planned for the next few years.”

Outcast follows Kyle Barnes, a young man who has been plagued by possession since he was a child. Now an adult, he embarks on a journey to find answers but what he uncovers could mean the end of life on Earth as we know it.

Kirkman will be penning the pilot as well as wearing the executive producer hat for the show. Quite a few networks were looking into picking up the project after it was announced that a new Kirkman series was being created. Cinemax clearly ended up having the most enticing offer.
