Not another one! The last time HBO’s critically acclaimed fantasy drama ‘Game of Thrones’ had a wedding, the fandom was in pieces for weeks. In fact, I’ll bet there are still people out there who are still torn up about seeing the “Red Wedding”. Regardless, we’ll have to suck it up and prepare for whatever is in store when Margaery Tyrell weds King Joffery Baratheon in what’s known as the “Purple Wedding”.
Fans who have read the novels are already in the know, but for those of us who aren’t, the series creator George R.R. Martin has dropped a few hints to TV Guide about what to expect when Natalie Dormer and Jack Gleeson’s characters tie the knot during the fourth season. Of course, the author doesn’t give too much away (or hint at another mass murder), but he gives us just enough to pique our interests:
“It’s going to be the wedding of the year, and as memorable in its own way as our wedding last season. It’s what the fans call the Purple Wedding, based on the color of the wine, which plays a big part. It looks spectacular, the bride’s dress incorporates roses, there are 77 courses at the dinner feast, and there’s some wonderful halftime entertainment.”
Halftime entertainment? After seeing Joffrey’s idea of fun with his Uncle Tyrion’s birthday presents, I’m not so sure of how wonderful things could be during his wedding. Hopefully the lovely Margaery or her dear badass grandmother, Lady Olenna, keeps the spiteful little wretch at bay.
Additionally, Comic Book Movie has some pictures from the set of the upcoming royal wedding in Croatia. Check out the gallery below for a sneak peek at the festivities:
For those of you who haven’t read the books yet, what are you expecting out of the Purple Wedding? Do you sense more death and suffering in store for the newlyweds and/or their guests? Share your predictions in the comment section. And for those of you who have read the books already, no spoilers! You don’t want to be that guy.
‘Game of Thrones’ returns to HBO in spring of 2014.
