Allegedly, the Marvel ‘One Shot’ ‘Item 47‘ led to ABC developing the ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ television series. With a new ‘One Shot’, ‘Agent Peggy Carter’ coming your way soon (specifically Tuesday, September 24th, as a bonus on the ‘Iron Man 3’ BluRay), is it possible that Captain America’s romantic interest, portrayed by the lovely Hayley Atwell, could be spinning off into her own show as well?
SPOILER ALERT if you haven’t watched the short already!
If you’ve already seen the (AMAZING) short, it features Agent Carter breaking out of the secretarial pool to track down a super villain named Scorpio, who is a long-running foe of Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D. Of course, by the end of ‘Captain America’, the espionage agency had not yet been founded, although some future members, like Dum-Dum Dugan appeared in the film. Nick Fury is clearly established in the cinematic universe as being younger than the Silver Age version, but this ‘One Shot’ establishes a new possible origin for the establishment. After infiltrating Scorprio’s base of operations, and WINNING, one superior wants her ousted. Someone higher up wants her entrusted with founding S.H.I.E.L.D.
It’s unverified, since Marvel plays things close to the vest, but rumor has it that ABC (which is owned by Disney which also owns Marvel now) is seeking to parlay ‘Agent Peggy Carter’ into her own series. The show would presumably chronicle the establishment of S.H.I.E.L.D. and could potentially serve as a prequel for the upcoming ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ series, one of the most anticipated series of this upcoming fall season.
‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ debuts next Tuesday, August 24th, the same day that ‘Iron Man 3’ hits stores on DVD and BluRay. If you haven’t seen the ‘Agent Peggy Carter’ short, definitely check it out! It’s definitely worth it! (Now we just need a Pepper Potts ‘One Shot’ at some point! Or heck, how about a ‘Rescue’ full-length movie?! Bring it, Marvel!)
