SPOILER ALERT: If you haven’t seen ‘Iron Man 3’ yet, then there are huge spoilers ahead for the end of the movie. You have been warned.

Fan reaction to Ben Kingsley’s portrayal of The Mandarin in ‘Iron Man 3’ has been fairly split. There are some hardcore haters, but then there are those who loved the character and all it’s twists. Like him or not, Trevor might pop up again in a future Marvel movie since he’s only been taken into custody. However, had director Shane Black gone with the alternate ending, then we would have decisively never seen him again.

Recently, storyboard artist Federico D’Alessandro posted a few animatics from the finale of Tony Stark’s latest feature film on his personal website. The majority of the ending stays the same, but the most interesting part is what happens to Trevor in the original version. In a darkly funny way, the actor meets his demise. But rather than going on telling you, you can see for yourself in the video below:

As you can see from this alternate ending, if it had come to pass, then we would have definitely seen the last of Trevor/The Mandarin because he incorrectly injected himself with the Extremis virus and then explodes. While this ending for the aspiring actor would have been pretty funny, it was a bit too cartoony to fit in properly with the rest of the movie in my opinion.

What do you think of this alternate ending for ‘Iron Man 3’? Would you have liked it better than the ending that they went with? Finally, would you like to see Ben Kingsley’s Mandarin appear in a future Marvel movie? Share your thoughts in the comment section.
