A while back everyone that had played the game ‘Uncharted’ was excited that it had been picked up to be a full length feature film. That was three years ago and since the initial announcement, we’ve heard a whole lot of nothing.

Recently, however, the film’s producer Avi Arad (‘Iron Man’, ‘The Amazing Spider-Man‘), who appears to be collecting video games to turn into films, chimed in on the progress of the movie:

“I think ‘Uncharted’ will be very successful. It’s a father and son game. There are things about it that are interesting. I think the world of antiquities theft, there are many countries in the world that realised they’re being robbed and they’re trying to recoup these important pieces. Now, the script has a lot of character [and] I think that has a shot at being the first one [to succeed].”

Well, that’s great and all, but when will we see this film since ‘Mass Effect‘ and ‘Metal Gear Solid‘ also on his plate? Apparently, not that long from now! ‘Uncharted’ has been tapped as the next movie to be created of those three in his queue (while the other 2 films are at least 3 years away).

The film will be based on a script by David O. Russell (‘Three Kings’) and Mark Wahlberg (‘Ted’) had been cast in the lead as Nathan Drake. As it’s been a couple years since he’s signed on for the project, Wahlberg may have stepped out by now and, between you and me, I hope he does. Don’t get me wrong. I’m one of the people who actually enjoys Wahlberg’s work. The thing is, another actor has previously stated he would love to be able to take this Indiana Jones-esque roll and that person is none other than Nathan Fillion.

While he’s already played a Han Solo styled character in ‘Firefly‘ and ‘Serenity,’ now it’s time for him to take the style of another role that made Harrison Ford (‘Star Wars‘, ‘Indiana Jones’) famous. Fillion deserves the chance to carry on with Ford’s legacy. He deserves to continue forging his own legacy loosely based on the footsteps of Ford. He deserves it because he’s Nathan Fillion and he’s just that awesome!

Many of the little mannerisms, expressions, etc. of the character of Nathan Drake will make you think of Fillion. I wouldn’t be surprised if they partially modeled him in the game after some of Fillion’s previous work. It’s a geeky casting match made in Heaven if I’ve ever seen one. We’ll just have to see what the producers have to say (and depending on who is still involved in the film when it gets to production).

So what’s the ‘Uncharted’ video game about that this film will be based upon? There are a few versions out but the first one goes a little something like this:

A 400-year-old clue in the coffin of Sir Francis Drake sets a modern-day fortune hunter on a exploration for the fabled treasure of El Dorado, leading to the discovery of a forgotten island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. The search turns deadly when Nathan Drake becomes stranded on the island and hunted by mercenaries. Outnumbered and outgunned, Drake and his companions must fight to survive as they begin to unravel the terrible secrets hidden on the Island.

Are you excited to hear that ‘Uncharted’ is moving forward? Who would you like to see in the starring role?
