It’s been nearly a year since we least heard that Michael Dorn may take the Captain’s chair on his own show. This was shortly after we learned that any new Star Trek television series would be put on hold. That long without an update may sound depressing, but it sounds like the show is “not dead yet” so we may all still be in luck!
Last time around, the idea of ‘Star Trek’ back on the small screen was well received by both Dorn and one of the producers that would be involved. With Worf being such a mainstay in the Trek Universe, having appeared in ‘The Next Generation’, Deep Space 9, and all four of the ‘TNG’ based movies, he’s knee deep in Federation knowledge.
So where does it stand right now? Dorn gives an update about the project saying:
“Last year there was interest and I talked to a couple producers and we actually had pitch meeting with Paramount and CBS. Business things got in the way in terms of the JJ Abrams movie coming out and CBS/Paramount and their relationship with JJ Abrams. I don’t think they wanted to step on his toes by putting a new series on, but it’s not dead yet. I’ve finished the script and hopefully someone will take a look at this and say ‘we can do this.’
Abrams, Paramount, CBS, people – make this happen! Or as Picard would say “Make it so!” So many fans would love to have an ongoing new ‘Star Trek’ series moving forward. Worf is not only a fan favorite, but a Worf-centric series would be an easy way to tie up any loose ends from those 3 shows he’s appeared in – not to mention the guest appearance opportunities that wouldn’t be possible in a brand new show! Think of how easy it would be to stick in an Admiral Riker (or even Picard!) Let’s be honest, any one from the cast of all three shows would be great!
Honestly this news couldn’t have come at a better time. I was a huge fan of ‘The Next Generation’, and while I had never finished ‘Deep Space 9’ and on, I had seen the first few seasons of it and ‘Voyager’. These days? I’ve been eating up the show and am about to finally finish ‘DS9′ and move on. With so much of Worf on screen right now, I relish the thought of him returning and in a Captain’s chair!
What about you? With J.J. Abrams’ movie franchise reboot, is the previous timeline dead to you? Could this exist in the new timeline? Is this aging Klingon warrior past his prime? Sound off below!
