Earlier this week, we were given an overload (in the best way possible) of X-Men as offerings from ‘The Wolverine’ and ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ emerged at San Diego Comic-Con. But last week, we learned that Fox is planning on expanding their X-Men film universe by introducing a new team in ‘X-Force’. Currently, ‘Kick-Ass 2’ director Jeff Wadlow is writing the script with the hopes to direct as well, but he’s taking time out of his writing schedule to talk about everything at the con.

When we first heard about this extension of the Marvel mutant movies, very little information was available about the plot or which members of the team would appear in the movie. We assumed that we wouldn’t know more until 20th Century Fox’s panel in Hall H, but Wadlow talked about the film a bit prior to hitting the stage. In an interview with Cinemablend, the writer shared just how far along into the process he is already:

“I’m pretty deep into it. I have the whole story completely worked out. I’m about 20 pages into my draft. If I wasn’t promoting Kick-Ass, I would probably have a draft [already], but Kick-Ass is going to slow me down just a little.”

He continues by talking about which incarnation of the team he’s going with in his script. While he has years and years of history to choose from, aside from team staples Cable and Deadpool, I feel like Sunspot and Warpath are locked in due to their parts in ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’. But at this time, he’s still staying vague about it:

“Here’s the thing, I love the current run of ‘Uncanny X-Force’. I love the classic run. Part of my take was addressing this idea that ‘X-Force’ can be many different things, and that’s what got the studio excited. I think the fans will be excited, too.”

For those disappointed with the answer, you have to realize that it’s still very early on in the process. We’re not likely to get this news for a little while, especially since Wadlow is busy with ‘Kick-Ass 2’ and other upcoming projects as well.

One thing is for sure, whenever we get the announcement, X-Men and X-Force fans will be waiting anxiously for the next word on the project.
