Now that Bryan Singer has already started production up in Montreal, Canada ,on his return to the X-Men franchise, ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’, you’d think that he’d have all of his pieces in place in terms of the cast by now. After all, we’re already in the double digits when it comes to marquee-level talent and characters. But the party still continues to get larger as we’ve just learned that yet another person has been added to the mutant roster of this massive film.

Over the weekend, Singer tweeted a picture of himself with Shawn Ashmore, Ian McKellen, and Patrick Stewart all wearing matching #14 hockey jerseys, but one other man with the name “Canto” on his jersey joined them. Judging by who then retweeted the picture, the person joining the X-crew in taking in some NHL action was Mexican actor Adan Canto, who added this message to the tweet:

And with that, the actor known for his role in Fox drama ‘The Following’, which also features Ashmore aka Iceman in the X-Men films, announced his involvement in the latest X-Men picture. It’s unclear who Canto will be playing, but two weeks ago, when fans asked what his next project was, he tweeted in response, “I might turn into a ball of fire if someone pisses me off”. From what I’m seeing around the rumor mill, that might indicate that Canto will be playing Bobby da Costa, the Brazilian mutant known as Sunspot who currently is affiliated with both the X-Men and the Avengers and who has the power of solar absorption and rechanneling AKA he can turn into a “ball of fire”.

Another possibility making it’s rounds is that Canto could be playing Sunfire, but I find that to be unlikely because Shiro Yoshida is Japanese, not Hispanic. Of course, there are other possibilities too because there are many mutants in the Marvel Universe who have powers involving powers, so I guess for now we just have to speculate away until we get the official word from Bryan Singer or until the film comes out.
