Lately, the Marvel movie headlines have been dominated by ‘Iron Man 3’, ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’, ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’, and (to a lesser extent) ‘Thor: The Dark World’, however, there’s another Marvel movie going into production fairly soon. Directors Anthony and Joe Russo of ‘Community’ fame are gearing up their film ‘Captain America: The Winter Solider’ to shoot in the next few months in Cleveland, Ohio. Recently, it was announced that Emily VanCamp would be joining the cast in an unannounced role, but the rumor is that she’ll be playing Sharon Carter, the niece of Hayley Atwell’s character Peggy Carter and eventual love interest of Steve Rogers. Aside from that casting news and the announcement that Toby Jones will reprise his role as Arnim Zola, we haven’t heard much about who else will be returning for the Sentinel of Liberty’s second adventure on the big screen. Well, recently another former cast member has revealed that there have been talks about a return.

In an interview with Screen Invasion to promote his new movie ‘Dead Man Down’, Dominic Cooper shared that there’s a possibility that he will be appearing in ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ as Howard Stark. However, things might not work out:

“Yeah, they mentioned that, they mentioned it to me. But I don’t know how… I’m too busy. I’m trying to film, I’m filming at the moment, everyday, and I’m really trying to make it work but I think I’m stuck in Budapest, so at the moment its really, really tough, like I don’t know how I’m going to achieve it.”

While Cooper was great in his role as Tony Stark’s father, that’s an odd thing to bring up considering that the new movie takes place in the present. I only say that it’s odd because in the present, Howard Stark is dead. How would he be in the new movie if he’s dead? Cooper continues to explain why he’d like to return and how they would do it:

“I don’t know how I’m going to get to… yeah, there was talk of it, and now I don’t know whether I can, which will be really annoying because I loved being part of those. You know, I think it was such an incredible time, and I think — you know the first one — they did such an incredible job of it. So, I will try my hardest to get Stark back into a flashback sequence or some description, but its proving rather difficult in terms of scheduling at the moment.”

Naturally, the only way to fit Stark in the new Cap movie would be a flashback. But didn’t they pretty much show all of Steve and Howard’s interactions in ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’? I mean, we saw how they first met and then their relationship was put on ice when Cap was, so I’m not too sure what else they could bring up in a flashback involving the two characters from World War II.

Of course, there’s the possibility that the flashback isn’t from Steve’s memory. Maybe, when he’s introduced to Sharon Carter, she shares a memory that involves Stark and her aunt and then the door is open for Atwell to make a cameo as well. That would be a pretty cool thing to see, don’t you think? Well, if Cooper’s schedule doesn’t clear up, then the chance are unlikely. If the shooting schedules sync up, would you like to see Dominic Cooper reprise his role as Howard Stark in ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
