Last summer when Marvel Studios’ Phase Two was announced at Comic-Con, fans erupted at the sight of the full title for Steve Rogers’ next cinematic adventure. Comic-reading Cap fans knew that naming it ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ meant that it will contain a good amount of Ed Brubaker’s amazing run that began in 2005 which featured the return of Bucky to the Marvel Universe. However, according to the latest news, Cap won’t just have The Winter Soldier to deal with in his upcoming sequel.

Though Hugo Weaving expressed a few months back that he’s not interested in reprising his role as The Red Skull, Toby Jones, who played the villain’s right hand man Arnim Zola, revealed his desire to return to his role in the new Captain America film at the Golden Globes. According to an interview while on the red carpet, Jones shared that his wishes have been heard by Marvel and he will be appearing in ‘The Winter Soldier’.

In the following video, the actor spends most of his time discussing ‘Berberian Sound Studio’, which he won an award for during the ceremony, and his portrayal of the legendary Alfred Hitchcock in HBO’s ‘The Girl’. But after he goes through his upcoming projects, the reporter asks about ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ and Jones drops the bomb about the return of Zola. Watch the whole video below, or skip to 3:54 to hear the bit about Cap 2:

Though portrayed as somewhat of a lackey in ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’, Arnim Zola is a force to be reckoned with on his own. Though he appears in Cap’s original timeline back in World War II, in the comic series, the scientific genius developed a machine that transfers the essence of a person into a human or android host body and allow them to live for practically forever, which he eventually uses on himself. His brain and android-powered brawn are no mere lackey playthings.

The android body with a human face is the form that Zola is best known as in the comics, and while it’s possible that Jones is being called in for flashbacks, it’s also very possible that they could fit Zola into the team that unearths Bucky as it’s not out of character to switch allegiances from, say, the Germans to the Russians. Though a floating face in a robotic body may not seem like much of a threat, one could look to Captain America’s Marvel NOW series by Rick Remender and John Romita Jr. to see just a fraction of what Zola is capable of. Regardless of how we’re to see him portrayed, Toby Jones is set to play the character once again.

What do you think of the return of Arnim Zola in ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’? What other villains from Cap’s rouges gallery do think could pop up in the new film? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Directed by Greendale Community College regulars Anthony & Joe Russo, ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ starring Chris Evans as the Star-Spangled Avenger alongside Samuel L. Jackson, Anthony Mackie, and Sebastian Stan is slated for release on April 4, 2014.
