It’s not easy for a genetically modified military soldier who wakes up decades later to find love, but directors Joe and Anthony Russo are determined to find the right girl for Captain America. According to Deadline, the directors have whittled down the list of prospective girlfriends to 5 actresses for the female lead.

Imogen Poots, Alison Brie, Emilia Clarke, Teresa Palmer and Jessica Brown Findlay

The search has been going on since August and at that time it was rumored that Anna Kendrick, Imogen Poots, and Felicity Jones were front-runners for the role. Apparently 2 of the 3 weren’t that high on the list as only Imogen Poots (‘Fright Night’) has moved on to the final 5 top spots. The other actress who apparently are testing for the role are Emilia Clarke (‘Game of Thrones’), Jessica Brown Findlay (‘Downton Abby’, ‘Winter’s Tale’), Teresa Palmer (‘I am Number Four‘, ‘The Grudge 2’) and Alison Brie (‘Community’, ‘Mad Men,’).

While no official word has yet been given to what character these ladies are auditioning for, many suspect it will be for the role of Sharon Carter, niece of past Captain America love interest Peggy Carter played by Hayley Atwell in ‘Captain America: The First Avenger‘. In the comics, Sharon met Steve Rogers while she was a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent under Nick Fury’s command. Over time, their paths crossed during several missions and they eventually fell in love.

While the field is still open on the girlfriend front, it has been announced that we haven’t seen the last of Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) as she will also be making an appearance in this film. Unfortunately, Marvel and Disney are keeping the amount of her involvement in the film a secret but comic book fanboys and fangirls know that she has a direct link to the Winter Soldier, a.k.a. James ‘Bucky’ Barnes. Bucky is credited as one of her instructors and was even romantically linked to him at one time.

Filming is slated to begin in March in Cleveland, Ohio so hopefully it won’t be too long before we find out who gets to steal Captain America’s heart.

Who do you think should get the job as his love interest?
