Ever since Disney announced that they would be making more ‘Star Wars’ films that would continue within the original trilogy’s universe, fans eagerly wanted some kind of confirmation that they’d be seeing a return of the old gang, mainly Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Princess Leia, otherwise known as Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and  Carrie Fisher respectively. Rumors immediately began with confirmations of appearances followed by denials by the actors, but now one of the mighty trio has given a confirmation that fans will be seeing her character again.

In an interview with Palm Beach Illustrated, Carrie Fisher was asked outright if could confirm her appearance in ‘Star Wars: Episode VII:’

Q: Disney is going to continue the Star Wars saga, producing movies set to hit theaters starting in 2015. Can you confirm whether you’ll reprise the role of Princess Leia?

CF: Yes.

It was a simple one word answer so there can be no denial of misinterpretation, right?

Fisher has known about the new Disney trilogy as she was with Mark Hamill when George Lucas first broached the subject a year ago. She’s had time to think about what Princess Leia would be like today and when asked, she replied:

“Elderly. She’s in an intergalactic old folks’ home [laughs].    I just think she would be just like she was before, only slower and less inclined to be up for the big battle.”

Will the more elderly Leia still sport the cinnamon roll do?

“The bagel buns and the bikini, because probably she has sundowners syndrome. At sundown, she thinks that she’s 20-something. And she puts it on and gets institutionalized.”

While no official word from Disney has been released, now that Fisher has given her confirmation, does that mean fans will be hearing about Ford’s and Hamill’s return soon? Hamill has already confirmed he’s in negotiations and Ford is very open to the idea of returning so…

Fans are now waiting to hear as well as wondering what direction Michael Arndt has taken with the three characters. Will his script include ideas based on one of the many ‘Star Wars’ novels a là the manner Disney’s superhero films are based on their comic book storylines? Will Luke and Leia be leaders in the New Republic? Will their children carry on and be the focus of the new films? And what about Chewbacca and Lando Calrissian (Billy Dee Williams)? Will they, too, be returning to the ‘Star Wars’ universe as well?

Who do you think should return from the original trilogy?
