Warner Bros. ‘Justice League‘ live action movie, based on the DC Comics property of the same name, is still a few years away, but in recent weeks the rumor mill has been churning non-stop! While there have been various incarnations of a live action ‘Justice League’ movie before, this latest one seems to have gotten the furthest along in development which has many fans hopeful that it will actually come to fruition! After Disney and Marvel’s massive success with ‘The Avengers‘ this year, Warner Bros. knows that they have a lot to live up to with a ‘Justice League’ film. So what do we know about it so far?

For starters, it’s been said that the main team will consist of at least six heroes, possibly more, with confirmed heroes including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Aquaman and The Flash. We also know that the only person actually cast in the film so far is Henry Cavill, who will be continuing his role as Superman in the film after first appearing in his own standalone film ‘Man of Steel‘ from director Zak Snyder. Rumors had been running rampant lately that Joseph Gordon Levitt was set to don the bat-suit for the film, continuing his role of John Robin Blake from this summer’s ‘The Dark Knight Rises‘, but the actors representatives have recently shot that rumor down. Some fans still speculate if we’ll see a new Green Lantern or if Ryan Reynolds will be returning after his standalone film flopped both critically and financially. While we don’t know for sure who will be playing them, we at least know which heroes to expect (although a few surprises are likely still ahead of us). So with that in mind, we move to the next question: who are the heroes going to be fighting?

With the limited build up to this film, the options for which villain or enemy force that our heroes will be facing are virtually endless. Unlike ‘The Avengers’, which had five films building up unto it before it hit theaters, ‘Justice League’ will only have next summer’s ‘Man of Steel‘ to lay the groundwork for what is expected to be DC’s  “springboard” of sorts to launch numerous other spin-off film franchises. Some names being tossed around by fans are Vandal Savage, The White Martians (didn’t “The Avengers” just pretty much do that? Come on people…) and even Starro The Conqueror! But the guys over at Latino Review believe that they’ve got it pegged…

*SPOILER ALERT- SPOILERS TO FOLLOW*

Supposedly the Justice League will be facing off against one of the most powerful villains in the DC Universe, none other than Darkseid! That’s right; one of Superman’s big bads is rumored to be taking on the original superhero team! From a logical standpoint, it makes a lot of sense as it would take a rather large threat to the DC Universe to bring together all of the big name superheroes to work together in order to stop it. It makes even more sense when you consider that Darkseid was the villain featured in the first story-arch of the ‘Justice League’ comic series when DC Comics relaunched it last fall as part of its “New 52” universe reboot.

As a god (well, part of the ‘New Gods‘ family of characters anyway), Darkseid is generally considered to be one of the most powerful beings in the whole of the DC Universe. His telekinetic powers coupled with his immortality, invulnerability and genius level intellect make him a formidable foe for anyone to try and take on alone, even Superman. So, the Justice League being needed as a whole to take him down seems like as good an idea as any. Hell, this is the guy that actually managed to kill Batman! He means business and is sure to give the Justice League a run for their money! As of now there is no word as to which (if any) of Darkseid’s usual crew of henchmen like Steppenwolf, Desaad or Granny Goodness and the Female Furies will be showing up in the film, but only time will tell on that one.

So what do you think about this new information? Is Darkseid the right villain for the Justice League to face during their ‘first rodeo’, or is there a better option out there? Let us know what you think in the comments below or on our Facebook page!

Justice League is set to be released in summer of 2015.
